- Home Sweet Home…Home Safe Home
Concerned about the number of times Emergency Medical Technician’s have seen elderly patients become disabled after an unnecessary fall, Upper Valley Ambulance has designed a program to both identify risks and prevent injuries within the home. “It only takes a second to fall and suffer a serious injury, however, it could take months or years to recuperate” according to John Vose, Administrator of UVA, a field provider for over twenty seven years. In 2006, UVA treated 52 area residents between the ages of sixty and ninety-six for fall related complaints. “I have seen a preventable fall turn into a hip fracture as well as a long term hospital or Nursing Home stay too many times” Vose states. UVA is seeking to support the elderly population within the nine communities they serve who want to spend their senior years comfortable and safe at home. “We need family, friends, and concerned neighbors to know we are here to help before an accident or illness happens and to bring these residents to our attention” according to Vose.
